St Joseph & The Penguin

This blog started off as a way to document an around the world journey that took me, eventually, to all seven continents (so long as you consider New Zealand as part of Oceania) and ended with my living in Ireland for a few years.  It is slowly morphing into a different kind of travel blog.  I am not yet sure what the final form will be.  Maybe blogs, like the people who write them, never really stop changing.

I have not stopped traveling.  Covid has certainly thrown a wrench in to plans, but I have managed to get around a little bit.  I stopped posting for a while, but I will make up for this.  I did manage to see, and photograph, a good chunk of Ireland during the months of rolling lockdowns and numerous Covid restrictions.

If you are new to this blog, you have to be asking yourself Why St Joseph & The Penguin and what do they have to do with travel?  Well, it all relates to my dear mother who passed away in 2017.

Penguins were her thing and they were literally EVERYWHERE in her house.  All of her friends, and several of mine, got a penguin and there were still birds to spare.  The one I took to Yosemite in 2017 lost its beak.  (Rock figurines do not travel well…).  My traveling companion now is a stuffed penguin named, simply, Penguin.

St Joseph was buried in the yard when I put the house on the market and my wonderful Realtor, Dan, dug him up for me when the house sold (I was in Utah).  Joe goes on some trips still, but he is old and travel just isn’t recommended for him these days.
